Check your writing before you submit

  1. Paste or type your text into Your text, or start with Try example.
  2. Read Words and Characters, then check Without whitespace if your form excludes spaces.
  3. Choose Copy counts to copy only the count summary. Check the destination’s own rules before submitting your text.

The limit is 200,000 UTF-16 units. Over-limit input remains intact, and no counts are shown until you shorten it. Clear removes the input and copy status. Navigating away or refreshing clears your text; copy it yourself before opening a related tool.

What counts as a word or character?

Words are continuous Unicode letters or numbers with attached combining marks. Internal straight or curly apostrophes, ASCII hyphens, U+2010 and U+2011 join a group. Decimal and thousands punctuation between numbers also joins a group: 1,234.5 counts as one word. Other punctuation and hidden separators split groups; emoji and symbols alone are not words.

don't stop → 2 words; well-being matters → 2 words; hello/world → 2 words.

你好世界 → 1 group, 4 characters; 你好 世界 → 2 groups, 5 characters. Continuous Chinese, Japanese and Korean letters count as a group. This is not linguistic segmentation for those languages.

👩‍👩‍👧‍👦 → 0 words, 7 characters, 11 UTF-16 units. é (e + combining acute accent) → 1 word, 2 characters.

Characters counts Unicode code points, not visible symbols or grapheme clusters. Combining accents and joined emoji can contain several code points. UTF-16 units is the raw JavaScript string length; some emoji use two units per code point. No text is normalized, repaired or silently removed.

Without whitespace excludes ECMAScript \s whitespace, including line breaks. A zero-width space (U+200B) is not in that set: Hello[U+200B]world has 2 words and 11 characters. Hidden characters can explain unexpected length.

Lines counts CRLF, CR or LF as line boundaries, including an empty line after a trailing break. Empty input has 0 lines. Paragraphs counts non-empty blocks separated by one or more whitespace-only lines; a single line break within text does not start a new paragraph.

These explicit rules can differ from Microsoft Word, Google Docs and the form you are submitting to. This tool does not check grammar, plagiarism, authorship or AI origin.
